Feature & Follow #139

PJV Readers

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Increase Blog FollowersThe Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? The goal is to increase blog followers and make friends. First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools — keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to WordPress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don’t have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

All features are chosen randomly to be the feature. They are not chosen by content or name.

Our Feature is Elemillia of Gone Bookserk

When did you start blogging?
I began blogging April 2011.  Before I started blogging, I had gone through a very silent phase of many years.  I wasn’t reading much at all, I was mostly accumulating books.  Then an event pushed me towards my love of books, again, thankfully.  So I found my release, my escape, and also my peace in reading books.  I began blogging, at first, as a way to express my love and passion of books, in its most basic sense – just writing my reactions and thoughts… for me.  Last year, though, I started doing reading challenges and it has slowly developed into something I feel is a bigger part of me.  It has become a full expression of who I am; a reflection of all that I love about the books.  I have come to discover how much I belong in the book blogging world… I’m very fortunate to have also come to know the community of bloggers that are out there.  Everyone has made my blogging time so much more fulfilling.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?
My favorite part of book blogging HAS to be WRITING REVIEWS.  I love getting up every day with the thought of a prospective review.  Writing a review means I get to read another new book, and best of all talk about it.  I love books and I love writing reviews of books even more!  It’s through the process of writing my reviews that I have come learn so much about the books I read, about life in general, and even about myself.

What type of books do you mainly blog about?
During the year of 2011 I was blogging a lot about Classics.  Then in 2012 I started blogging more about new books as I was doing Book Tours.  Then late 2012 and now this year more, I have come to expand my book base.  I blog a lot about Literary Fiction, Science Fiction, Young Adult, and Science Books.  Lately, I have found myself reading quite a lot of NonFiction, too.

What is your favorite book(s)?
Oh I have so many favorite books.  First and foremost, I have to mention The Hunger Games! It’s this specific book that has inspired me in so many ways.  Jane Eyre is one of my all time favorite novels.  I’m also a huge fan of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.  Check out more of my FAVORITES!

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
Oh there are so many great things… but the BEST thing HAS to be getting to know the large community of book bloggers I have come to be a part of.  I blog every day realizing more and more how fortunate I am to know so many people that love books, to visit so many blogs that love to talk about books, and to have so many opportunities for free books and community events.

This weeks Question:

What is a book you didn’t like that all your friends raved about or what book did you love that wasn’t popular?

– courtesy of Amanda @coranne

This happens a lot unfortunately. Books like Mara Dyer, Forever by Maggie Stiefvater and Stormdancer have all left me with relative nasty tastes in my mouth because of my under-whelmed state of being after reading them, whist all the other reviewers are screaming out their veritable bookgasms. Where was my bookgasm?? Not their apparently. As far as where my bookgasm lay? It would be in books like Beautiful Bastard – which left me going ooh – la -la, while even my fellow Parajunkee’s View reviewer, Patti – looked at me funny. I could almost make out what she was thinking when I stated, “I like it.” She was thinking that this was proof positive that I was a bit bent and she now probably thinks my husband beats me, because that is the kind of guys I like *snort* Hey I’ve mentioned that I like mentally disturbed Alpha males — but only if the heroine is just as screwed in the head. Happy Friday kids. Keep it real.

  7. I read the Forever series and it was ‘meh’ for me…I liked it but there were no sparks. I haven’t read any of the other ones and think maybe I’m in the dark if everyone loves and hates them. I haven’t read Beautiful Bastard yet, so no opinion there if you are bent or not :D Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven

  8. I keep seeing Beautiful Bastard and almost getting it, your response might have tipped my scales.

  11. I’m a new follower and I just posted my first ever FF :)

  12. Yeah, it happens every so often that there are books that just seem to be popular with everyone but they just don’t do anything for me.

    Here’s my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT weekend!

    Old Follower :)

  13. Great choices! Old Follower FF

  14. I am a first time FF’er. Think it is a genius idea! I wasn’t a big fan of Stormdancer either if I am completely honest.

  15. First time FF’er. It definitely took me a while to get through Mara Dyer.

  16. Mara Dyer is one I remember people raving about but I just couldn’t see myself liking it so I never read it – not planning to either. I do hope our impressions of Stormdancer will differ though hehe, really hoping to like that one!

    Thanks for sharing & hosting!

  17. I had the same feelings about Pushing the Limits. I just didn’t get the hype.

  19. I have a tough time with the caveman-ish Alpha males. I prefer them a little more easygoing.

I haven’t read your hated books yet, but they’re all on my TBR!

    Here’s my F&F

  20. Fifty Shades of Grey

We read this book as part of my work’s book club reads. Everyone was raving about it, but I seriously dis-liked the book. I don’t mind a romantic interlude, but I do not need a book that goes into minute detail about the encounter.

I guess this is why I stick to YA and MA titles! :-)

  21. I’ve seen this feature before on your blog but this is my first time actually trying it out so I hope we get it done right.

I happen to like your features actually cause I keep thinking that I need to be more social and less anti-social, but it’s hard since some people can come across as very standoffish. No offense to anyone!

So I thought I’d try it out and I’m setting up my post right now.

As for the books you didn’t like that everyone else seemed to have liked? I liked the ones you hated and hated the one you loved. lol. But I respect you opinions and choices.

  22. This is my first time joining the follow Friday hop so Hi everyone!!

  23. Im a new follower and part of this. Also a new blogger so i love this idea!!

    My blog: alwaysabookgeek.blogspot.com

  24. Rachel your answer is hilarious a “bookgasm” that’s definitely going to be an added word in my vocab. Like you I was a bit underwhelmed with Shiver however, I do love Maggie Stiefvater in other books, her writing is poetical and I love her words.

Here’s my Feature & Follow Friday post.

    Have a great weekend!

  25. Everyone keeps blabbing on about how awesome Beautiful Bastard is. If I buy it, read it, and hate it, then I’m hunting you down.

Not really. Too long of a car ride.

No, instead I will tweet you FSoG one horribly written line at a time! MUHAHAHA!

  26. PARAJUNKEE!!! THANK YOU! SO MUCH for featuring me this week. I was incredibly happy and thrilled with the turnout and it’s all thanks to you!. I appreciate it more than you can imagine I think :) .
