Indies on PJV: Review of Sterling by Dannika Dark
A recommendation from bookish friends that is going to become a new obsession. Sterling has it all, and then some. Alpha male supernatural hotties. Check. Strong kick a$$ heroine. Check. Cool supernatural world. Check.
Author: Dannika Dark
Blurb: Zoë Merrick lived a less than ordinary life, until late one night, she was brutally attacked and left for dead.
A man named Adam spotted her running down the road covered in blood, and took her under his wing. Zoë didn’t just survive that night – she underwent a physical transformation and acquired strange new abilities. Severed from her old life, her frustration grows as she tries to comprehend what’s happening to her.
Serendipity leads her to Justus. He’s handsome, arrogant, and not entirely human. Zoë learns the truth about what she is, and just how dangerous their world is for a young Mage. The only way she will understand her power is by putting her trust in this man, and accepting the protection he offers.
When her immortal freedom is threatened by the one man who has a right to claim her, Zoë learns the price of freedom…and the value of loyalty.
In Sterling we enter the world of the Mage. Only it’s not what we think it is. It’s a very constricted world with lots of vague rules, hot alpha males, and action. In a word it is: AMAZING.
The parade of male characters in the book goes from creepy, to hot, frying hot, and, finally, ending at” OMG I’m on fire” with the entrance of Simon Hunt. The things that come out of that man’s mouth make me want to faint.
The dark parts of this book, brutal beatings of the main character, attempted rape, and the rape of her powers are emotionally charged and handled with care. I could feel Zoe/Silver’s pain as she transitions from one shock to the next. The moment she wakes up in that body bag her life is like a roller coaster in the amusement park of cray-cray.
The author has the power to take the reader into Silver’s emotions so completely. I felt like I wanted to kiss Adam and Simon. (Sorry Justus fans, he really does nothing for me) and throttle her creator, and that stupid council. How she managed to survive all of the crap and keep her head up high was amazing. And completely believable. I mean, I am clearly referring to these characters’ strengths as if they are real life people.
Silver really thrives in her new life too. Before she was a jaded woman who was a cat worshiper. Hmm…I think I can relate to that. While I definitely could use some excitement in my life. I will pass on this. Although reading it is amazing.
I can see why Dannika Dark is selling so well. Her writing is amazing. She has earned every rabid fan that I have met *ahem*Stacy and Tamara. She can now count me in her very large fan base.
So go pick up this book and join us. You are warned, it’s pretty unputadownable.
