Feature and Follow #132

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain New Blog FollowersIncrease Blog Followers, gain Book Blog Followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers — but you have to know — the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools — keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to WordPress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don’t have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

All features are chosen randomly to be the feature. They are not chosen by content or name.

Our Feature is Anya @ On Starships and Dragonwings

When did you start blogging?
I briefly started a book blog back in 2011, but didn’t know about the awesome community that was out there, so ended up giving up on that first try. However, when I stumbled across the book blogging community, I knew I had to try again in March 2012 and it has been much more successful so far and so much more fun with friends!
What is your favorite part of book blogging?
I have to choose just one?? Well, then it’ll have to be reading what everyone else thinks about new (and old!) books and finding out about books I would have never noticed otherwise. It has helped me expand my reading and also find so many more books that I absolutely love!
What type of books do you mainly blog about?
Science-fiction and fantasy all the way! This includes adult and YA in fairly equal amounts though :) .
What is your favorite book(s)?
I’m going to sneak in two here since I have two main categories of books. For the older and more sci-fi category Robert Heinlein’s To Sail Beyond the Sunset. It helped me through all the angsty teen years ;-) . In the newer and more fantasy focused category (I don’t know why the categories are organized by age and genre that way, just happened to work out, haha), I have to say Brandon Sanderson’s Elantris. That book is some ridiculously epic fantasy and I wish he would make a sequel!!
What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
I partially eluded to this already, but I have found out about and read so many books that I would never have been exposed to if I hadn’t joined in the book blogging community. In addition though, those recommendations come from all the awesome people I have met that make this so much more fun! Blogging adds this whole new dimension to reading, it’s freaking awesome.

Q:  Who is your favorite villain from a book?

I’ve always been a sucker for the antagonist. They better be good, or this book isn’t worth my time. I like them delectably evil, but with justification. They can’t just be evil for evil’s sake. Hard criteria to meet right? Some of the best villains I’ve experience have been from film, or television. Our feature today is Anya — and one of my faves from Buffy the Vampire Slayer was Anya (which BTW I named my only daughter Anya) and she started out as a baddie. That was fun. I still mourn the loss of that show. But, I asked for a book didn’t I and here I am defying my own question. I’m sure a lot of you will answer with Warner…who is a good one. I also like Ian from the Cat and Bones series, he’s not really an antagonist, but he is a baddie. Then of course there is Cruce. Wait for it..

From the Teaser 1 posted on Karen Marie Moning’s Facebook page:

Four nights he’s come to me, murmuring my name, making it an exquisite melody with which not even the divine orchestral choir of all the angels in heaven could compete.

He chimes my name in the language of the Unseelie and it makes my ears ring until my mind is emptied of all thought, until my eyes are incapable of beholding any vision other than him. He is so beautiful that merely looking at him makes me weep and when I brush tears from my cheeks, my hands come away stained red with blood.

He wakes me but doesn’t wake me.

He takes me to a place that is so perfect and serene and free of worry that I want to stay there forever.

My name is Cruce, he says. Not V’lane. I was so weary of wearing his golden shining face. He was never half the Fae I am. I have you in the Dreaming, is it not beautiful? Do you not feel divine here with me? You need not fear me. I am not what I seem. I’m in danger.

  2. Haha, I promise I’m not a demon ;-) (anymore!) I also loved that show, though it was weird to hear my name all the time, since that is a pretty rare occurrence unless people mean me! I do really like it though and I hope your daughter does too :D Thanks again for having me as your featured blogger this week, if you can’t tell I’m very excited ;-)

  3. Cruce is an excellent choice! I was so mad he when was revealed not to be V’Lane! And I absolutely adore Ian!!! Old follower :)

Anya was my favourite thing about Buffy too! And Spike during his “I’m not making puppy eyes at the slayer, don’t be daft!” stage.

  8. Great choices! I love me some evil baddies too! :D My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday!

  9. Fantastic! What an excellent choice and I really enjoyed reading the passage. I love it when you aren’t sure the villain is actually a villain or in Anya’s case when they are so certainly the villain but change their stripes. Old follower :D Jaclyn @ JC’s Book Haven

  10. I think my brain has died from going back to school this week, I could not think of any Villain except the ones from Harry Potter.

  11. Ohh, I LOVE me some Cruce (V’Lane) too! :) Can’t wait to see what sorts of havoc he’ll wreak next!

  16. Oh, Rachel, Rachel, Rachel. you named your daughter after a villain? You were asking for it, weren’t you? I am glad to hear that she STARTED of as a baddie, which leads me to believe that she has transformed into the picture of sweetness.

  17. good choice! My FF

  18. I don’t think I would have picked Warner if I hadn’t read Destroy Me. I was also thinking Blake from The Lux Series but wasn’t sure if he was truly a villain or just someone who pisses me off and that’s kinda a spoiler alert pick. I would love a scene from his point of view though.

  19. Oh Cruce! Yes, I didn’t think of him at all when I wrote mine, but he’s a great choice. And I really love the question this week!
Have a Fantastic Friday and a wonderful weekend :) Here’s my FF post for this week.

  20. Heyas!

  26. Great choice! I loved Anya by the end. I even tried to name my daughter Anya but my hubby shot me down he’s italian and had to have a italian name. So I let him pick and he chose Isabella as in Isabella Swan. I should of known better he was deployed after the first movie and asked me to send the books for him to read during his downtime.
I’ve only read the first Fever book but plan to finish the series up in the next few months when I get caught up. I can’t wait to get to know Cruce.
    Thanks for the great share.
