Feature and Follow #130

Feature and Follow #130

Gain New Blog FollowersWelcome to the Feature & Follow

Increase Blog Followers, gain Book Blog Followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers — but you have to know — the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools — keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to WordPress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don’t have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

All features are chosen randomly to be the feature. They are not chosen by content or name.

Our Feature is Cassi @ Galavanting Girl Books

When did you start blogging?
Well I started my blog in 2007. I was going to Switzerland for 3 months, volunteering at a Girl Scout world center, and I thought “hey why not blog.”  Well that didn’t work out very well.  Switzerland was amazing –fun, beautiful, experience of a lifetime, etc. Between the shared computer and all the fun I never actually posted a blog.  I revived the blog for a brief period in 2009 (one post) then really started actually blogging midday through 2010.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?
New books and new friends.  Since discovering goodreads & starting to blog the quality of my reading material has gone up and up (except for some galleys, but that can’t be helped right?).  Outside of blogging circles people recommend me books just because they are YA, inside the blogging world friends understand why I read what I read and help me find books that I will truly love.

What is your favorite book(s)?
Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta (and all the rest of her books)
Ruby Oliver series by E. Lockhart
Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfeld
(Ask me tomorrow & my answer might be different)

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
The friends that I’ve met.  I’ve gotten surprise packages with books and lots of encouragement. My goodreads group did a “Melina Marchetta around the world” book tour.  It all started with a Melina Marchetta middle grade novel that was only available in Australia, then it traveled the world accumulating postcards and notes. http://www.galavantinggirl.com/2011/09/melina-marchetta-around-world.html

Q: What New Years Blogging or Writing resolution have you placed on yourself?

I actually have a lot. I want to organize more events, comment more, get involved with other bloggers and set up a secondary blogging portal for Children’s Books. The portal would be for Middle Grade, First Readers & Picture books. This is because my child is getting very involved in the reading process…and we are purchasing so many books for her, I feel they deserve a place in my promotional strategy. Some I enjoy just as much as her ;)

RULES

To join the fun and make new book blogger friends, just follow these simple rules:

    • (Required) Follow the Follow My Book Blog Friday Hosts {Parajunkee & Alison Can Read}
    • (Required) Follow our Featured Bloggers
    • Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing. You can also grab the code if you would like to insert it into your posts.
    • Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say “hi” in your comments and that they are now following you.
    • If you are using WordPress or another CMS that doesn’t have GFC (Google Friends Connect) state in your posts how you would like to be followed
    • Follow Follow Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don’t just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don’t say “HI”
    • If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the Love…and the followers
    • If you’re new to the follow Friday hop, comment and let me know, so I can stop by and check out your blog!

Happy Follow Friday!

  5. Hopping through. I’m hoping that I’ll have a kid soon. If biology cooperates…which so far it hasn’t. If/when that happens, I may get more involved with picture books. I love picking them out for my nieces and nephews. My sis/bro-in-laws are all amazed how I find such good books – which I mostly find off of blog recs.

  6. Kids books are not just for kids! I’m glad you’re enjoying the books your daughter is reading.

  7. Some terrific resolutions there. With two young children of my own, I like your idea of branching out to a younger audience. I look forward to visiting your portal to Children’s Books.

  20. What a great idea to start a second blog for childrens books!

I’m an old follower, with no FF post today :( I’ve been busy donating stem-cells. I’m still reading other bloggers FF posts, though, as I love this meme so much.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  21. Awesome resolutions! I especially like the idea of the portal for children’s books. That could be a great boon to children’s book authors. One reason its so difficult to get a children’s book published is because it’s almost impossible to sell a lot of copies. The tiny humans don’t buy books and their parents aren’t always gung ho either, so it might really help to have a book blogger featuring them. Great idea! I’ll watch for it! :D

  22. That’s a great answer :) I love your idea about childrens literature as well!

    My F&F: here

    Have a great weekend!

  36. Even though I’m new to blogging I set two goals/resolutions for 2013.
    1. To get organized
    2. To interact with other bloggers

I’m off to a good start with being organized, now I just have to work on the whole socializing with awesome-book-loving-veteran-blogging strangers. No pressure.

    :)
