Review:

Six weeks of Hell on Earth. Six weeks since Angels, supposed beings of God, have descended and decimated the human population. Penryn, who was already living a hard life, with an unhinged mother and younger sister in a wheel chair, is left to defend her family in a world where chaos rules. Yet, as she fights to survive, the unthinkable happens, her sister is taken by angels and Penryn is left on her own. She is unwilling to let her sister just disappear, so she embarks on a very dangerous quest to retrieve her sister…luckily during the scuffle which ended in her sister’s kidnapping, another angel was injured. Fighting fire with fire, Penryn kidnaps the angel, she believes he is the only one that can help her save her sister.

Holy Mother of All Young Adult Awesomeness! If you like things freaky, if you like to be scared, if you like gritty and chilling young adult, download Angelfall by Susan Ee right now. There were parts in this book that I swooned over, like chillingly handsome angels, there were parts where I was freaked out and then there was most of the time when I was just straight up riveted. The story was original, the characters were well flushed out, the plot was high intensity and flowed from scene to scene never letting up. By the time I got to the climax I thought I was going to have double up on my blood-pressure medicine. (Complete farce, I do not take blood-pressure medicine)

As far as the Audiobook, I enjoyed the narration by Caitlin Davies, it seemed realistic and nothing jarred me out of the book with her accents or “man voice”.

Recommendations:

Fans of darker Young Adult novels should enjoy. Horror fans and fans of dystopian and post-apocalyptic fiction should also enjoy. There are some darker themes and violent scenes within the book, so I recommend for more mature teen audiences.

  1. Just went and purchased this eBook. Thanks for the great review!

    • That is the best compliment ever for a review. Thanks so much Annette!

  2. I LOVED this book. I read somewhere that she is not releasing the next book until 2014. I hope that is not true. It’s also been optioned for a movie!!! <3 this review!

  3. My only regret about reading this book was that I didn’t read it sooner. I loved it. The ending was done in such an awesome way as to leave me wanting the 2nd book in the series RIGHT NOW.

  4. My only regret about reading this book was that I didn’t do it sooner. I loved it. It was well written and I can’t wait for the 2nd book! Great review.

  5. This is on my TBR, I’m moving it up the list.
This sounds a little darker than Divergent and The Hunger Games, this might be right up my alley.
    Thanks for reviewing!

  6. Ok, I have this on my NOOK, but haven’t read it yet b/c of how LONG it is! WHOA! Was it a fast read? Or did it take a while to get through? It sounds SO good and I did love The Immortal Rules. Thanks for the review!

  7. Okay this review was awesome! It hit every note that would make a reader like me want this book. “Creep me out awesome” – yes I’d like some of that.

“If you like things freaky, if you like to be scared, if you like gritty and chilling young adult” – Yes, yes, yes and yes!

Then the chillingly handsome angels? Oh yes!

And I could totally use some high intensity in my reads right about now!

Oh and as far as “Complete farce, I do not take blood-pressure medicine” – do you take it now? ;)

I was waiting to get half a second to hear your thoughts about this book you said was awesome. Now that I have I’m going to head over to Amazon to download. And for the FIRST time EVER I will click a link on a blog to do it instead of opening up a new tab.

Granted I have no idea if they’re affiliate links but I hope so! :)

Thanks so much for exciting me about a new book!

    • Okay that links to Audible LOL. I’m buying the Kindle book. :)

    • No blood pressure medicine now…LOL. Sorry I didn’t do affiliate links, haven’t figured out how to do it for audible yet. And figured I had to link it there since it was an audiobook review ;)

  8. I might have to get this – I loved Angelfall when I first read it – it was so fast paced I stayed up all night. I’ve been off audiobooks for about six months now and I was just thinking yesterday I should renew my Audible account.

    • I love my audible.com account…I like listening while I work and clean.

  9. I might have to try this one out.

  10. Wow..i have this on my Nook and was like meh..I will get to it when I get to it..but Wow..you have made me want to read it now. So glad it’s more then just another angel book!

    • Oh good! It is so very different then the usual like Hush, Hush. It would be a great Tim Burton movie.

  11. Yay Horror! Yay darker YA books! This sounds great. I’m always looking for books to listen to. I’m happy you liked the narrator too. A not so good narrator can really put a damper on the experience.

  12. Nice! This book has been on my Audible wish list for a while, but I’m certain that, if not for your review, I wouldn’t have downloaded it for a while; books on angels have always intrigued me, but I haven’t made the leap. So, thanks! I have a couple of credits that I was unsure how to spend, so now one of them’s spoken for. :)

  13. Dude I didn’t even know there was an audiobook! I’m so happy that you enjoyed it (isn’t it just the right amount of creepy awesome?). I don’t think I’ve seen anyone give that book a bad review!

Love the review, now you can join the count down to Book 2 with the rest of us! :)

  14. I read this one. I lost too much sleep thinking about all the creepy stuff that goes on, though. It wasn’t really for me! I’m a new follower to your blog. I have a children’s book blog if you want to check it out. http://book4children.blogspot.com
