So who is excited about the release of ICED, Dani’s story from Karen Marie Moning? I will be attending the release party festivities in just like 14 days – I’m not counting down or anything.
Karen Marie Moning has just posted a EXCERPT from ICED and has asked bloggers to share it. Why not right? I’m a huge fan girl.
And questions for fans:
It looks like Dani will be 14 year old in the story – but KMM has stated explicitly that this will not be your typical YA book. What does this mean? Who knows, will Dani be 14 in age, but act like an adult. That still might creep me out though…LOL. What are your thoughts on this? Think she should have aged Dani? Or maybe went the route of Kenyon and made a YA spinoff like the Nick Chronicles?
Then…do we need to have Mac & Barrons in the book to make it good?

I am super excited to read Iced! I did like Dani in Fever, and thought she had a pretty awesome attitude. She was always old for her age, and had to grow up quickly when the fey invaded Dublin. I think the kind of darkness that we saw in Fever will be what makes Iced a non-typical YA, even if Dani is still 14:) (And I can’t read the excerpt – I hate reading just a little piece when I can’t have the whole thing:P)
I don’t know if I should read it…maybe i’ll wait until the 27th or so…
I alos liked Dani, but I was hoping she would be aged up. I hope nothing happens with Ryodan at this point because of the age factor. Even though she has has that adult attitude, she still seems young to me. But, I’m still curious to see how this will play out in the books.
Wouldn’t that freak you out, because it is hinted about a romance between Dani and R — even at the Shadowfever launch KMM hinted at it. Gah — creep factor, but hell everything the woman does is genius, so all my freak is for nothing…
KMM said she will age 3 years over the course of these spin-off books, so 17 at the end of it. 17 year old Dani + Ryodan = not so terrible

Yeah, even if she’s 17 I’m still uncomfortable with it. In one of the books Dani did mention someone named Dancer. Maybe he’ll be her love interest and closer to her age.
Yes, the faceless guy that Mac was going to have the sex talk with Dani on her birthday — right?
I’ve been thinking about this though. Ryo = how ever old, but how is that different from any other YA that has a teen in love with an immortal. Wasn’t Edward like 100+ years old? That Goddess series, has the main character hooking up with Hades who is 2K+ as long as the character is depicted as teenagerish…they get away with it. I wonder if that will be what happens. Now I have to go back and look for descriptions of Ryordan.
I’m actually very excited about Iced. I love the world and many of the characters (Ryodan!). Still not sure about Dani as the narrator though.
As for Dani and Ryo… Hell, no! I don’t want them together and not only because of the age (I mean 17-year old Dani and… who-knows-how-old Ryo is ewwwww) and hope KMM won’t go there. It would actually ruin the series for me. A mentor/student relationship could be very interesting.
I hope there is a reason and not just to break into the YA market *sigh* and i agree with the ewwww
I think KMM is doing what she feels is right. I liked Dani in the Fever Series. So I’m willing to give this series a whirl. I’m sure Barrons and Mac will make an appearance in the series.
Oh they will, I hope it is not just a cameo though…
I’ve been wanting to read something by Moning so thanks for posting! I don’t know if I want my first novel by her to be YA though…

I must be in the minority, because I have been rooting for future Dani/Ry since Shadowfever.
I don’t think the age difference is that big of a deal. When Dani is 17, there would only be 5 yrs difference between her and what Mac was when she met/had sex with Barrons, and Barrons and Ryodan are the same age.
