Desperately Wanting Wednesday, is inspired by the meme Waiting on Wednesday, which was created by Breaking the Spine. But, unlike WOWs, Desperately Wanting Wedneday is not only for releases that I’m waiting on, it’s also for released novels that I just haven’t purchased yet, or might be sitting on my shelf that I want to read, but just haven’t gotten there yet.
There are so many YA Contemporary Romances out right now; I am in book heaven. My wallet, however, is in hell…
Hey Y’all, Patti here! Due to technical difficulties, Rachel wasn’t able to get a DWW post up today, so I swooped in to take over graciously offered to step in. I know it’s late but technically it’s still Wednesday, so, here we go…
YA Contemps I’m Desperate to Read
This first book looks pretty cute. It calls to me as the girl who was quiet and shy in high school…

Title: The Fine Art of Truth or Dare
Author: Melissa Jensen
Type: YA Contemporary Romance
Published: February 16, 2012 by Speak
The blurb:
Pretty in Pink meets Anna and the French Kiss in this charming romantic comedy.
Ella is nearly invisible at the Willing School, and that’s just fine by her. She’s got her friends – the fabulous Frankie and their sweet cohort Sadie. She’s got her art – and her idol, the unappreciated 19th-century painter Edward Willing. Still, it’s hard being a nobody and having a crush on the biggest somebody in the school: Alex Bainbridge. Especially when he is your French tutor, and lessons have started becoming, well, certainly more interesting than French ever has been before. But can the invisible girl actually end up with a happily ever after with the golden boy, when no one even knows they’re dating? And is Ella going to dare to be that girl?
OMG Y’all… Pretty in Pink and Anna and the French Kiss?!? I must have it!!!
And next, this one looks a little darker:
Title: A Midsummer’s Nightmare
Author: Kody Keplinger
Type: YA Contemporary Romance
Published: June 5, 2012 by Poppy
Purchase Goodreads Author Web
The blurb:
Whitley Johnson’s dream summer with her divorcé dad has turned into a nightmare. She’s just met his new fiancée and her kids. The fiancée’s son? Whitley’s one-night stand from graduation night. Just freakin’ great.
Worse, she totally doesn’t fit in with her dad’s perfect new country-club family. So Whitley acts out. She parties. Hard. So hard she doesn’t even notice the good things right under her nose: a sweet little future stepsister who is just about the only person she’s ever liked, a best friend (even though Whitley swears she doesn’t “do” friends), and a smoking-hot guy who isn’t her stepbrother…at least, not yet. It will take all three of them to help Whitley get through her anger and begin to put the pieces of her family together.
Filled with authenticity and raw emotion, Whitley is Kody Keplinger’s most compelling character to date: a cynical Holden Caulfield-esque girl you will wholly care about.
I loved The DUFF, and A Midsummer’s Nightmare looks really, really good. I anticipate some angst, which I love, and hopefully a happy ending. The only problem, I think I’m going to have to fight my daughter for first dibs…
Do you prefer your YA Romance light and fun or dark and hard-hitting?

I actually have copies of both of those but still haven’t managed to read either yet. I think I’ll love them!
I hope you do! They both look so good but for different reasons.
I just finished the DUFF and am definitely interested in picking up more books by Kody Keplinger!
Yes – after I read The DUFF I was hooked!
A Midsummer’s Nightmare was amazing.<3 I really hope you enjoy it!
I've seen The Fine Art of Truth & Dare around, but never really paid attention to it. But I think I'll try it out since it's been getting some awesome reviews.
