Desperately Wanting Wednesday, is inspired by the meme Waiting on Wednesday, which was created by Breaking the Spine. But, unlike WOWs, Desperately Wanting Wednesday is not only for releases that I’m waiting on, it’s also for released novels that I just haven’t purchased yet, or might be sitting on my shelf that I want to read, but just haven’t gotten there yet.
There is hype and then there is hype. I personally consider hype when I hear about a book alot. Meaning my friends are all reading it…they say it rocks. There have been a few I missed. A few I don’t think I want to read, but some grab my curiosity. Here is one.
Fall prey to the Hype…
Veronica Roth’s quote on the cover says “Unlike anything I’ve ever read.” That says it right there, but technically that could be a bad thing. Vulnerable was like nothing I’ve ever read before, because of all the editing problems and weird garden growing orgy. Sorry I digress, back on track — Why haven’t I read this yet? But, I also think I might also be confusing this all the time with Daughter of Smoke and Bone, by Laini Taylor. Just for some reason it revolves around this one two of these are not like the other….
Title: Shadow and Bone
Author: Leigh Barduga
Type: YA Fantasy
Published: June 5th 2012 by Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)
The blurb:
Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.
Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha…and the secrets of her heart.
Shivers.

Oh I like this twist on WoW! Shadow and Bone is one I want to read and haven’t gotten to yet either. Tiger Lily would have to be my choice for hype. I bought it not too long ago and it is going to be a fall read. Here is my WoW: http://whatsontheshelf.wordpress.com/2012/09/19/waiting-on-wednesday-15/
So many! My TBR list is ridiculous! I think this book is on there, though.
Shadow and Bone was a pretty good book. Better than I expected it to be, actually. It had its flaws, but overall was a really enjoyable YA read.
