Daily Blogger Tip: Conversation is Key

Daily Blogger Tip: Conversation is Key

Blogging TipA Daily Blogger Tip for an Established Blogger

If someone is nice enough to comment on your blog, respond. There is nothing worse then an unresponsive blogger, especially a larger blogger. It gives the impression of a blogger that is not plugged into their own network. The responsibilities of larger blogs do tend to throw more things on the plate and interaction between the community changes, but a comment on your own blog is the cherry topping. Answer, even if it is just a Thank You and then maybe respond with a return question to keep a conversation going. The goal is to have a forum type setting and your posts to become go-to spots for information and conversation. This will increase pageviews and grow a loyal following.

  1. That brings up a question – do you reply directly to their comment, or go to their blog and say something there?

    • I am so terrible at this and try my best to remember to return the visit!

    • See I reply directly and sometimes I do go to their site…

  2. I totally agree with this. I have been feeling horribly guilty for not responding to comments for the past few weeks as I’ve been moving. But I’d just finished commenting back and saw this post.

Comments are a great way to start or continue a dialogue and to interact with blog readers. Even if they don’t come back to check your responses. It does make you feel more connected. Especially on your own blog.

I just wish blogger made it easier to comment from the dashboard like WP does…

    • I got so used to Blogger though, I hardly ever reply via dashboard — and that is so simple.

  3. I totally agree!! I’m been so bad about replying when i’ve got a million things going on, but at least try to reply to everyone who comments. Often times it’s a direct reply on my blog, and other times it’s a visit to their blog.

    • I’ve been terrible lately with this Disqus thing — I have to go through a few extra steps…I know I have to visit other people blogs big time.

  4. Oh, I definitely agree with this. I try my hardest to reply to all comments – unless it’s a giveaway entry…you know how that is. It brightens my day when people comment on my blog but I have to admit that I really enjoy it when other bloggers take the time to reply to me. I might not respond to thier response, but I always check back.

    • I always check back when I expect a response LOL — especially if I ask a question. Hard to keep track of all of them though.

  5. Totally agree on this, and I sadly stopped follow some rather large blogs, because even when i asked a question in my comment, i got no response. I love comments and respond to almost all of them and when and if I can I comment back.

    • We all started as small blogs and I remember one blog in particular that I commented a few times on and never got a response. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand that I’m at fault for it, but I usually try to reply in these comments and especially in twitter.

      • You always seem to respond, or maybe I just got lucky..LOL

        • Sometimes it might take me two weeks to respond to a blog comment, but I will eventually do it. My “need to work on” thing is getting to other people’s blogs more.
