‘Seduced by the Vampire King’ Character Interview
Character Interview by Laura Kaye
Today we have Nikolai and Katherine from Laura Kaye’s new release, Seduced by the Vampire King, Vampire Warrior Kings #2.
So, I guess I should’ve asked this in advance, but, uh, Nikolai, how should I address you? Your Highness, Sire, My Lord—
Nikolai: My name will do fine. I get enough of the “my lord” crap from my warriors.
Okay, Nikolai it is. So, how have things been since you mated?
Nikolai: *smiles at Katherine* Best days of my life.
Katherine: *nods* It’s been amazing. Totally unexpected, but so wonderful.
So, did you have the official consummating ceremony?
Katherine: *blushes and looks to Nikolai*
Nikolai: We did, and it was a moment I never thought I’d experience. *he clasps his colorfully marked hand around Katherine’s*
So, Katherine, what did your family think of your mating Nikolai?
Katherine: Call me Kate, please. And, well, after the shock wore off, they were very happy. And of course they haven’t let me live down that they were right about the Proffered training all along. *shakes head*
Nikolai: *kisses her hand* I don’t care who was right. I’m just glad you found me.
Kate: Me, too.
Has it been hard adjusting to living with a bunch of vampires, Kate?
Kate: Mostly, no. I mean, I grew up with brothers. And, you know, in some ways guys are guys whether they have fangs or not.
Nikolai: *narrows eyes at her*
Kate: *chuckles* You know what I mean. It’s also very funny to watch them all scurry to straighten up the man cave when I join them to watch TV or hang out.
Nikolai: *grins and nods—and it brings out a surprising boyishness in his handsome features*
So, Nikolai, whatever happened to those clothes that Mikhail lent Kate?
A low rumble sounds out and I realize it’s coming from Nikolai, a growl from deep in his throat.
Uh, oh, um, never mind. Let’s uh…um…so, Kate? Did you and Leo ever make amends?
Kate: *strokes the back of Nikolai’s hand—his eyes immediately track the movement and the growl dies down* I think we did. He’s very quiet around me, so I don’t always know how to read him. But, you know, we didn’t necessarily meet on the easiest terms.
Right. How is your head, anyway?
Kate: I’m fine. And, anyway, well, Nikolai’s, er, when I—
Nikolai: My blood ensures her health and her well being, in all ways.
Kate: *blushes again* That. Right.
So, Katherine, I have to ask: what does blood taste like? Was it hard to adjust to drinking it?
Katherine: *presses her free hand to her now flaming cheeks* It tastes like… *she shakes her head* It’s the most incredible thing I’ve ever tasted, and the satisfaction of drinking it, I can’t even describe it.
Nikolai: *in a low, gravelly voice* Your body knows what it needs. *they share a long, engrossed glance*
[erm, are they communicating without talking? I’m feeling a bit like a third wheel all of a sudden…] *clears throat*
Katherine: I’m sorry. Um. *releases deep breath* I guess…imagine the most rich, decadent taste you can, and then lace it with an inebriant and, well, an aphrodisiac. That’s what drinking Nikolai’s blood is like.
Nikolai: *shifts in his seat* Are we almost done?
Katherine: Nikolai!
Nikolai: What, angel? I find myself in need of you.
Katherine: *chews her bottom lip*
Nikolai: *gaze flashes to the movement of her teeth and I’m sure I can see the hint of his fangs pushing out*
Katherine: Um. *chuckles* I think we should probably wrap this up.
Uh, sure. Of course. So, what’s next?
Nikolai: *drags his attention away from Katherine* Next, our stories will take you to the far northern reaches of the world, where the sun never rises part of the year. My brethren there, Henrik, is in dire trouble. I hope he finds what he needs in time.
Anything you’d like to say to the readers before you have to go?
Katherine: Just a very big thank you for giving our book a try and bringing our story to life! Thanks so much for being here today! It was wonderful to meet you!
*They speed through good-byes and are out of there so fast it makes my head spin!* Wow. I seriously need a vampire warrior king of my own. Did you see the way he was looking at her? Like he wanted to eat her. *snort* I guess he actually does. *sigh*

Great interview! I enjoyed this book as much as the first one. Laura has a knack for creating lovable, memorable, complicated characters so I always look forward to reading her books. Nikolai in particular is so raw and tortured! Ah, love it!

I really enjoyed the interview. I think the premise of this story is very interesting. She is running away from a life that is planned out for her by her family. In the process she runs into an uncertain future. It sounds like a great story.
