Review

Showalter has introduced us to the demons of her Underworld and now it’s the Angel’s turn. We meet Zacharel, Showalter’s typical, mouth-watering, tortured hero. He is the leader of a band of misfit angels on the verge of losing their wings or their lives. Each one of his angels is mentally scarred and emotionally stunted, including Zacharel himself. They are the grunts of the Deity that rules over them and they have only a few rules that govern them, kill demons and try hard not to kill humans during the process. This would seem like an easy task, but for the group of screwed up angels it proves tough every time.

On one of their mission Zacharel is curios as to why demons are constantly engaging at a particular criminal insane asylum. Zacharel discovers that the focus of their attention is a young woman, restrained to a bed, within the asylum. Accused of ripping her parents to shreds, only to know the truth…that the real murderer, can not even be seen by other humans. Demons ripped them apart and they continue to plague her daily. The doctors at the asylum think she is delusional, but the injuries that plague her are the testament to her attacks by these beings. At lease that is what she believes.

Hot, sexy and full of the charged world that I’ve come to love from Gena Showalter, ‘Wicked Nights’ did not disappoint. It was just a straight-up interesting construction of a paranormal romance. The world building was crazy and the couple was smoking. Zacharel was screwed in just the right tortured hotness…and Annabelle was tough and vulnerable in the right mix of a great heroine. I really enjoyed this fast paced read.

There were a few down-points thought, mostly in the predictability of some of the character reactions and there was some generic flavoring revolving around the insta-attraction between the couple. But, it wasn’t enough to take away from the awesomeness of the book.

Some fun things in the book, included some cameos by the Lords, which I thought was meant solely for the fans of the Lord of the Underworld, because it was a little manic introduction of the characters.

Recommendations:

Fans of Showalter will not be disappointed. It is also a great way of introducing yourself to Gena Showalter and her paranormal romance series. Angel mythology fans will delight and I have to reiterate that this is an adults-only read. You do not have to read any other series to enjoy this one.

  4. I’m excited about this one, I love LOTU, and I can’t wait to listen to this book ( I hope I don’t have to wait long).
I’m glad you liked it, I know sometimes the couples get into each other too fast for my taste, but in this case it seems that it didn’t take much away from you enjoyment or the over all feel of the book.
    Thanks, great work!

  5. Thanks so much for the review! I’ve been looking for some adult urban fantasy recommendations and have been hearing about Wicked Nights lately. I haven’t read any of Gena Showalter’s adult books, but this seems like a good place to start since it’s the first in a new series. :)
