Feature & Follow #102

Feature & Follow #102

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers — but you have to know — the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools — keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to WordPress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don’t have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

All features are chosen randomly to be the feature. They are not chosen by content or name.

Our Feature – Roxanne @ Books and Blossoms

When did you start blogging?

I started blogging in 2006. It all started because of a book I saw in the bookstore called, Where’s Raed by a chap calling himself Salam Pax. This book was an inside look at Iraq from a Baghdad blogger. Salam Pax was using the Blogger platform. And so, curious, I checked it out. I checked it out a few times before stumbling upon a blog (now since taken down) called The Possibilities of Fire, a blog mostly about US politics and the like. There were a number of us from across the political spectrum that started blogs because of Possibilities of Fire. I am still friends with one of those bloggers today. As far as book blogging, I started my book blog about 6 months ago or so.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?
Finding new books to read that I never knew even existed! Meeting new bookophiles! And … I must admit … getting books for free!

What is your favorite book(s)?
Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami
The Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Nieffenegger
The Little Prince by Antoine de St. Exupery

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
The people, the other book bloggers, you know, the book blogging community. It’s fabulous, so fabulous.

Q: If you could “unread” a book, which one would it be? Is it because you want to start over and experience it again for the first time? Or because it was THAT bad?

Vulnerable by Amy Lane. Worst book I ever read.

  4. Hopping through. Tris and Isolde was one of the worst. I only made it 50 pages but that was because it was so bad I wanted to keep going to see if it would get worse. When it did, I finally stopped.

  5. Hi Rachel, this is my first Feature and Follow Friday. My name’s Pam, and I used to review with Patti over on her blog. :) I just started my website about a month ago. If you want to come visit the site is http://www.moonlightreader.com

  10. It’s my first time with FF! And I really like it. I love this weeks question :) It would be great if you could really “unread” a book :)

  12. hi Rachel, my first FF post :D

  13. Hi Rachel, I like this idea, but I’m curious about something. I only blog once a week (I know, I know, but life is crazy) and it just so happens it is on Friday. I like this idea and the idea of meeting new people. My question is, when is the topic posted for the bloggers? There are definitely those weeks when I could use a little inspiration for my weekly topic, and this seems like a great way to do that (again, in addition to meeting new people. By the way, I will be following your blog now).

    Thanks.

Oh, and while there are many great books I would love to “unread” for the enjoyment of reading them again, one book that jumps out that I would unread was The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy. Lots of great things, but way too real (read: depressing) at the end.

    • I tweet out the topic usually on Thursday around 5/6 pm and the post goes live at 9pm on Thursday evening. That is the earliest I get the topic down.

  14. What a great and thought provoking question! It’s my second week participating and I am really looking forward to continuing.

  15. Great question! I’m glad you went with a “bad book” answer because I think some people are bashful about saying they hated the book. But sometimes books suck!

My follow friday! Hope you visit!

  16. I never heard of Vulnerable. I’ll have to look it up on Amazon.

  17. This is my first FF.
