Fifty Shades of Grey Chapter 14

Hello again my lovelies, back for more?

Chapter fourteen of Fifty Shades of Grey begins with a very hawt dream via Ana. The tool in question that our dashing Christian is wielding is a plaited leather crop.

After that dream she stumbles out into the kitchen and straight into the Kate firing squad. Luckily, again, Kate is sidetracked by her own selfish wants and Ana distracts her by bringing up the valedictorian speech that Kate will be giving.

The next section starts with Ana dressed and ready for her college graduation and waiting for her step-dad, Ray. Twilight, Fifty Shades of Locations MapYou, know him, the quiet but intelligent dad of our dear heroine that lives in Montesano, Washington (on the other side of the Olympic National Forest from Forks).

Time for graduation. Christian of course is center stage to give the commencement speech and the girls around Ana are all a twitter about how hot he is. It was kind of funny:

“He’s hot.”
I stiffen. I’m sure they’re not talking about Professor Collins.
“Must be Christian Grey.”
“Is he single?”
I bristle. “I don’t think so,” I murmur.
“Oh.” Both girls look at me in surprise.
“I think he’s gay,” I mutter.

Christian Grey's tieHe is also wearing the tie. You know the tie… ;)

But, even though he has that tie on, Ana is still sitting there all self-doubt filled, he won’t look at me, blah blah. I suck, he doesn’t like me. Blah blah.

Then revelation through his speech, she finds out he was once hungry and why he is trying to desperately to feed the world through agriculture and farming. He wants to feed the world. Let’s all sigh in unison. Hot, rich and charitable. It’s like prince charming with a crop — but not for the horse. Or maybe for the horse, which is you, when he sticks a horse tail up your petunia.

I’m seized by a sense of raw outrage. Poor, fucked-up, kinky, philanthropic Christian-though I’m sure he wouldn’t see himself this way and would repel any thoughts of sympathy or pity.

Applause. Applause. Everyone is happily graduated and Christian even tried to girl Ana as he shakes her hand. Place and time, Christian, place and time. And of course he wants to see her immediately and sends Kate to scoop her up, which doesn’t go unnoticed by the twittering chicks by her side.

As soon as Christian gets a hold of her he drags her into the men’s room. Yup.

But, of course it is to grill her some more because she made a Merger and Acquisitions quip — because she does feel like he’s making a deal, not a relationship with her.

But, he really wants to know about why she hasn’t returned his phone calls, because he was all worried about her driving in her deathtrap of a car…blah blah. And he wants her to make a decision…he can’t stand it anymore. But, he puts his foot down…

“Tomorrow. I want an answer by tomorrow.”

And he also wants to meet her stepdad. Which kind of throws her off because she doesn’t know how to introduce him to Ray. Christian insists on *friend*.

Luckily Kate puts that to a close with a quick:

“Hello, Ray.” Kate kisses Ray on both cheeks, making him blush. “Have you met Ana’s boyfriend? Christian Grey.”

Go Kate.

Ana is kind of fuming, but when she notices that Christian isn’t fazed and is sort of basking in it, she is almost glowing. In fact they are almost charged with sexual tension. For the first time, Ana also admits what is holding her back:

“But I want more,” I whisper.
“More?” he looks down at me puzzled, his eyes darkening. I nod and swallow. Now he knows.
“More,” he says again softly. Testing the word-a small, simple word, but so full of promise. His thumb traces my lower lip. “You want hearts and flowers.”
I nod again. He blinks down at me, and I watch his internal struggle played out in his eyes.
“Anastasia.” His voice is soft. “It’s not something I know.”
“Me, either.”
He smiles slightly.
“You don’t know much,” he murmurs.
“You know all the wrong things.”
“Wrong? Not to me.” He shakes his head. He looks so sincere. “Try it,” he whispers. A challenge, daring me, and he cocks his head to one side and smiles his crooked, dazzling smile.
I gasp, and I’m Even in the Garden of Eden, and he’s the serpent, and I cannot resist.
“Okay,” I whisper.

Seems Ana just bit into the apple…

Graduation over, Ray drops her off — more friggin’ texts and emails…that states one thing, Christian is coming to get her. She has to get ready and worse, she has to give him back the Tess books, in which she decides to scrawl a quick quote in return on them:

“I agree to the conditions, Angel; because you know best what my punishment out to be; only-only-don’t make it more than I can bear!”

How fitting of a quote.

  1. What made you decide to change to Disqus? Interestingly, from reading your read-along posts, I think this book is pretty silly. But now I want to read it. I put myself on the hold list at the library. Only 683 people ahead of me! At least they have 45 copies.

  2. I love the emails and texts. They cracked me up. The book needed humour and I think that the correspondence helped.
I am glad you put a map up. I was going to check out the geography of the area so I could understand it all better.

    •  I just had to, because they said she was from Montesano — but the mom lives all the way in South Carolina or something. I should have figured it out, because again that is a big Twilight parallel.

  7. Okay so I’ve finally caught up!!! I finished this book yesterday (I spent my entire afternoon reading the last 200 pages. It seemed I souldnt put it down. it was like crack!! just wait until you get to the end ___ happenes and then anna _____ and Im all “why oh why” and then______ and now I need the 2nd book. It should be here by tomorrow.

I’m glad my feelings are in line with yours. Yes ana annoys me. And yes christian is too controlling, but for some reason I love it. I thought I’d hate this book due to the bondage and stuff but for some reason, I find it sexy. I must admit (personal info…TMI alert) that bondage and blindfolding and a bit of spanking interest me a bit…and after this book it interests me a teensy bit more. But Christian is a bit too excessive with it and I dont think I can go as far as those in the BDSM Lifestyle. But the boyfriend is against it, so I’ll have to just settle for vanilla. Lmao.

I also love the whole “laters baby” and I think i’ll start using that. This book is great. It’s so un-perfect that it’s almost perfect (almost the same way I felt about twilight. Yes I’m an obsessed fan, but I dont talk about it. It’s all in my head. Ha!) I cant wait to read more of these books…and your posts to see how you feel about the rest!

  8. Oh, this chapter I actually liked! You had me so laughing! Love your reading of these!
