Review
It’s girl-next-door meets vampire romance in ‘His Darkest Embrace’ by Amanda Ashley. Where a neighbor that doesn’t seem to age becomes a girl’s teenage crush and now with Skylynn’s return, after more than eighth years, maybe something more.
A more sedate paranormal romance, Ashley’s characters focused more on the establishment of the relationship than the world building that some paranormal romances get distracted with. While there was an established world before the initial present of the book, it only distracted slightly from the overall plot. I enjoyed Amanda Ashley’s world that she created and I look forward to reading her work.
There was a slower pace also with this novel, which I thought could have been picked up a notch along with some reactions that I thought weren’t logical and were more for plot convenience than actual sensical character behavior.
Overall I would say this was a good book and recommended if you would like something a little different. Like a bit of contemporary mixed with your paranormal.
Recommendations:
Adults only reading, kiddies. This one has a bit a steam.

Great review, Rachel. I don’t think this PNR is for me, I can’t stand it when I feel the pace is too slow. Not the biggest fan of adult PNR so it has to be good for me to consider picking it up
I hadn’t heard of this book but I’ve added it to my Goodreads TBR thanks to your review. I’m not sure whether I’ll enjoy the slower pace either, but I would like to try out a book that’s a PNR/contemporary mix.
And I like the idea that it does focus on the relationship. Though I do love great world-building.
Very helpful and great review. Thanks!
Rachel I have been a fan of the relationship driven Paranormal Romances penned by Amanda Ashley for years, she is a sweetly slow but steamy break from the other PNR’s that are edgier action packed reads. This one is on my wishing to read list but have not given it much thought after finding out about it as have too many books I own now to read so it can wait a while longer!
Glad you enjoyed it as much as you did though, nice that after all these years the lady can find new fans still with her slower more laid back writing style.
O_O
hehehe I’m a hopeless romantic too XD
I had never heard of this book…
I’m definitely adding it to my tbr list
ps.
OMG! your team vampire button LOVE!
Hmm, interesting! I have never heard of this one. Girl-next-door-meets-vampire? And some contemporary elements mixed in? I’m so leery of vamp books after the train wreck that was the Twilight series, but if you liked it… I’m wavering a bit. It seems like something I might check out at the library because I really AM quite a lovesick fool for intense/forbidden romances and anything vamp-y is probably going to be that kind. But, re-reading your review, the decision that didn’t make sense and the slower pace…yeah, library read. But still something I might enjoy a lot!
Hm, the slow pace kind of turns me off on this one, but I have been wanting a little more steam in my reading. All this teen angst with no BANG is really getting to me in these YA books.
