Review
If you thought there was tension in the first book, you have even more to contend with in ‘Dreamless.’ Angelini must literally have a plot to drive her fans crazy – because she didn’t pull any punches. The book literally had me in a choke-hold until I finished it.
There has been some bemoaning the appearance of a love-triangle within this series and I have to say, at first I was a little apprehensive. I mean who doesn’t love Lucas? He’s like the perfect literary boyfriend. Yet, the introduction of “new guy” was crafted well and I really believe it helped keep the momentum of the second book going, thus keeping ‘Dreamless’ from being a total slump. Helen is put through quite a bit in this book and she might as well get a bit of assistance from the hot, helpful and sensitive variety.
This is not a series you want to pass up, it has it all, the romance, the deeply flushed out plot, intense back-story and action, action and more action. A must read in my estimation. You’ll fall head-over-heels for Helen and Lucas and the world that Angelini has created. The tragic story of these Scions will break your heart and leave you wanting more.
The beginning part of the book, though, did leave me confused, but I quickly settled in after the first chapter. It felt as if I had missed something. This is because Angelini just jumps right into the story, without any recap or hand-holding. I usually really don’t like recaps, “blah blah blah, get on with the story already, I know this!” But, I think a bit of hand-holding might have made the transition a bit smoother.
Recommendations:
Highly recommended that your read the first book, ‘Starcrossed’. This is not one you can jump right into and there is not even a hint of stand-aloneness. Fans of goddesses and myth stories should really enjoy. In my ‘Starcrossed’ review I described it as a Percy Jackson for girls, I stand by my original recommendation.

Thanks for the review. I enjoyed reading Starcrossed and i think i’ll enjoy Dreamless as well.
=D
From a romantic standpoint it didn’t surpass ‘Starcrossed’ but tension and action and just emotional trauma — I think it was better. You should enjoy
I don’t think I’ll be buying this one as I didn’t really enjoy the first book – but I’m stull curious to see what other people think of it! I’m glad you loved it.

Yay!!! I love your reviews. You totally cover the WHY behind your conclusions!!! Can’t wait to read this! (after the first!)
I hadn’t heard of this book, but thanks to your review it sounds like something I’d like. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!
I am SO. Freaking. Excited. For Dreamless. And I love the cover. It’s nice to hear that there’s no second book sadness.
I liked the first one but didn’t love it. But I LOVED this one! Loved the introduction of Orion and loved everything going on with Zach, Matt, and Cassandra.
I really enjoyed Starcrossed and can’t wait to read Dreamless although since I can’t remember detail for detail of Starcrossed except that ending I will be re-reading it before diving into Dreamless.
Why must you make me want to read it so bad!!!???

I read the first book and loved it! After reading your review, I can’t decide if I am anxious to get Dreamless and rip through it or if I am anxious about what might happen in the second book. Either way, I am sure it is going to be a great read. Thanks!
Now I’m crazy anxious for the next book! Killing me. LOL
I loved Starcrossed and I was a bit surprised by some of the reviews it got. Your review made me sure I’ll love Dreamless. I love Greek myths, and I’ll probably read anything related to Percy Jackson (one of my favourite all time series). Anyway, great review and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
