Feature & Follow #91

Feature & Follow #91

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers — but you have to know — the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools — keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to WordPress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don’t have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

Our Feature – The Romanceaholic

My name is Jess, and I’m a happily married 30 year old mother of two lovely young boys.

I’ve always enjoyed reading. When I was a child, my parents would threaten to take away my television privileges if I was being naughty. I didn’t care! Then they’d take away things like dessert, or some of my favorite toys. That’s was fine too. But then, one day, the wised up and realized that if they REALLY wanted me to behave, all they had to do was take away my library privileges! The shock! The horror! *shakes head sadly* It was terrible to live through I tell you. So now, many years later, here I sit, happily paging through my romance novels on my beloved Kindle, and occasionally smirking at the realization that my Mommy no longer has control over my library card.

I’m addicted to romance novels, as my blog’s title would suggest, and I actually began doing book reviews on Goodreads long before I got my own blog. I decided to actually bite the bullet and get a blog when I realized two things: First, my Goodreads shelves were so badly organized that even I couldn’t find what I was looking for, and secondly, because I was shamelessly trying to convince publishers to send me free books to help support my habit. Right now I’m on a Romantic Suspense kick, but I like to read everything from Paranormal/Urban Fantasy to Historical to Romantic Suspense to BDSM to Category Romances. Basically, if it’s romance, I like to read it!

Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

Yup. I got ‘The Selection’ by Kiera Cass because of a terrible review and the resulting twitter fiasco. I just had to read it — and guess what I enjoyed it and wrote a good review about it!

We have a new button, so update your blogs if you are used to doing this meme! Gain New Blog Followers

  2. I look at and consider reviews but I usually make up my own mind.

  4. Hey! This is my first time doing Feature and Follow and I really like it! I am now following you via E-mail and Alison Can Read + the two featured blogs! What a great question, I have bought a book because of negative reviews… I did it with Wither by Lauren DeStefano and I ended up loving it.

  5. Hi there :) just hopping through… I’m also definitely going to read The Selection but, not because of the bad reviews and scandal, I saw the book and it intrigued me before I ever knew about the other stuff.

    Here is my choice…

  6. I look at all reviews, but I use my own judgement. I have liked many books that lots of others didn’t.
I am new to the FF meme. This was a great question!

  7. Ah yes, I remember you saying that either here on your blog or on Twitter. I think I have done this before, but it doesn’t stick out in my mind.

    Happy Friday!

  8. You make me laugh.

  9. you’re right I was intrigued by the book but finally decided to not to read it for now.

  10. I love the cover, and I am always a sucker for a book with a cover. I am definitely going to read it lol.

  11. Hi Parajunkee :)

I just got a copy of The Selection last week, and hope to read it this week! Surpringly so many people put that they had not purposely read a book because of a negative review….well I sure did too! <3

    Have a great weekend!! XO

  12. Interesting how it all works. :D Here’s mine. Don’t know why I couldn’t add my link on the list tho. Don’t know if it was browser.

  13. Hi Parajunkee :)
Actually wanted to read the Selection because of the cover. I think I will have missed out on a lot of great books if I weren’t so morbidly curious about some people’s negative reviews. My FF is here

  14. Sometimes I buy badly reviewed books out of sheer morbid curiosity.
    My FF is here

  15. I haven’t read a book because of a bad review. If I was interested in a book and had discovered that it was getting negative reviews, I would still read it.

    Here’s my FF

  16. I don’t read many bad reviews. If it’s a book I think I’ll enjoy, then I’d rather discover for myself it I like it or not. It’s great that you found a good book from the Twitter fiasco though.

I’m an existing follower. My #FF

  17. Hi!! Just in my second week of blogging! Excited about this meme!! Looking forward to new followers and discovering new blogs!!

I’ve bought books before – even with bad reviews – especially if it’s an author I like!!

  18. I have never bought a book because of a bad review, but since you had a positive experience I guess I should try it sometime! My F&F

  19. I don’t generally buy books with bad reviews – I tend to just borrow them from the library and see from there if they’re worth buying. I have The Selection on pre-order though, despite the negative reviews by many. I’m not quite sure why I made the exception, so I suppose we’ll see when it comes out if I’m happy about it or not XD.

New follower here (LF)! Happy Friday :) .

  20. Great question! I am desperate to get myself a copy of The Selection!

  21. It wasn’t the bad reviews of The Selection which lessened my excitement to read it, it was the author’s behaviour in regards to the whole Twitter fiasco you mentioned. That being said, after reading your review, next time I need a little fluff and romance I might pick it up!

    Love the topic this week!

  22. Nice to meet you, and thanks for hosting. I’ve followed the hosts and am going to start working through the rest of the list now :)

  23. Hi, already a follower, but I don’t think you are following me. I wouldn’t buy a book Because it had a bad review. For me it would depend on the author and the book and if I was interested , it wouldn’t matter if the review was good or bad. But I wouldn’t intentionally seek one out.
    Here is mine:http://bellesbookbag.blogspot.com/2012/04/feature-follow-friday.html

  24. <3 Happy Easter parajunkee!!!;) XOXO

  25. Thanks for hosting! I have been a follower of parajunkee for quite some time. I’m a bookaholic! Yes, I can say that with pride! I would purchase a book even with a bad review because the favor or dislike falls on the reader’s interpretation and none will ever be the same.

  26. Thanks for hosting this follow hop, this is my first time joining!

  27. Here’s my first #ff link. I will post it correctly in the hop list next time! :p
