Desperately Wanting Wednesday: 2011 Hyped Books I Missed

Desperatly Wanting Wednesday, hosted by Parajunkee's ViewDesperately Wanting Wednesday is not only for releases that I’m waiting on, it’s also for already released novels that I just haven’t purchased yet, or gotten to.

We can’t read them all, can we? So this is my lament to the books I missed in 2011 that were all hyped up and I just couldn’t get my hands on them, or I forgot about them by the time the release date came around.

Young Adult Books I Missed in 2011

Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Richelle Mead

I’m sure you are wondering how I missed this one, right? Well, let’s just say the refused to give me a copy at ALA (display only) and then someone actually stole the display copies in the end and I was so upset about that, I never did buy the book when it was released. Not that I don’t want to read it, I just figure I’ll let a few release before I catch up to the series.

The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting

The Body FinderI don’t even know how this happened, I got a hold of book two but never book one. I need to go out and grab a copy, but I just haven’t managed. Even though I’ve heard great things about this book. Too little time, right? Remind me the next time I’m in the book store.

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

Libby BrayIt took me months to even figure out that this was a type of ‘Lost Boys’ dystopian. The cover rather turned me off for some reason. not that it was bad, I just thought maybe it was a ‘Beauty Queen’ massacre or something. Columbine meets Ms. Teen U.S.A. Another one that I’ve heard great things about but missed.

Adult Paranormal and Urban Fantasy Books I Missed in 2011

All three of these books are sitting on my shelf — isn’t that a friggin shame?? I could kick myself at times.

Larissa Ione
Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1) by Larissa Ione

I couldn’t be more ashamed that I haven’t read this book yet. It’s quite terrible, I’m actually dying to read it, have promo’d it and everything. I just haven’t gotten around to read it. Mainly because I talked myself into reading Ione’s Demonica series first, which I have started on.

Molly Harper
How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf (Naked Werewolf, #1) by Molly Harper

When I got this book in, I just wasn’t feeling in the mood for cutesy, chick-lit type paranormal romance. Yet, I’ve heard wonderful things about this series, so I’m going to have to go digging. It’s on my shelf somewhere…

American Vampire
American Vampire by Jennifer Armintrout

I think because of the parallel in the synopsis with the Morganville Vampire series, I wasn’t frothing at the mouth to read this one. But, now I’m having regret pains. It’s saying, ‘Read Me, PJ, Read Me!’

Have you let any über-hyped books pass you by?

  1. How to Flirt is SO good! A perfect light vacay read.

  2. I’ve wanted to read the Molly Harper one for a while.

I didn’t see a linky list, so here is my post for this Wednesday!

  3. I haven’t read Eternal Rider yet either and I’m a huge fan of Larissa Ione.
    Here’s our DWW: http://booklovinmamas.blogspot.com/2012/03/desperately-wanting-wednesday-2011.html

  4. I really enjoyed Bloodlines. I’ll have to add some of your choices to my ever growing TBR pile.

  5. I’ve still be slacking on picking up Bloodlines as well. I loved the Vampire Academy series I just can’t seem to find time around the rest of my TBR pile. And Lords of Deliverance has been added to my pile. ¡Gracias!

  6. I don’t even want to think about how many books from 2011 I left behind. All those series ending books. And I still haven’t read Bloodlines, either!

I had no idea about that for the Libba Bray book either. Interesting. May have to check it out.

I am curious to see what you think about Eternal Rider. Those covers are pretty cool. As a noob as far as adult pnr I’m definitely checking people’s recommends before reading.

  7. I got a copy of Eternal Rider last year through RAK but I’m not read it yet.

I borrowed How to Flirt from a friend and really enjoyed. That’s why I’ve listen to all of Harper’s Jane Jameson series. I have the second werewolf book in audio but I’ve not gotten to it yet. She writes funny stuff.

  8. I loved Beauty Queens! It is hysterical and awesome!

  9. I missed out on Beauty Queens :(

  10. Oh! You totally need to read Bloodlines!

  11. Among the YAs I haven’t gotten to are Bloodlines by Richelle Mead, Forever by Maggie Stiefvater and Divergent by Veronica Roth. There are lots more on my TBR mountain but these are calling to me the loudest.

There are too many adult books to list but the latest by Tom Clancy is pretty much at the top of the list.

There are just too many good books!

    • You NEED to read Divergent if you like dystopian, personally I wouldn’t bother with Forever, LOL. I haven’t read Tom Clancy for years…

  12. I’ve read three of your listed books. I am highly addicted to the Body Finder series and Bloodlines was okay for the most part, but it was the ending that really grabbed my attention, so I will try out the next one.

I like Molly Harper’s Werewolf series, pretty funny reads.

  13. Well everyone can tell you Bloodlines was awesome. But so was The Body Finder! It’s a very different kind of read, but still amazing!

  16. I was very underwhelmed by “Beauty Queens.”

  17. Molly Harper ROCKS!!! You really need to read that book!

  18. I’ve read Twilight a couple of times too but nlamiy to refresh my memory before the movie. I tend to not have enough time to reread because of all the new books out there waiting to be read! Great answer :) Here’s !
