Feature & Follow #82

Welcome to the Feature & Follow

Gain new followers and make new friends with the Book Blogger Feature & Follow! If this is your first time here, welcome! You are about to make some new friends and gain new followers — but you have to know — the point of this hop is to follow other bloggers also. I follow you, you follow me.

The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee’s View and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, (using the linky tools — keep scrolling!) then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

What sets this Hop apart from others, is our Feature. Each week we will showcase a Featured Blogger, from all different genres and areas. Who is our Feature today? Find out below. Just remember it is required, if you participate, to follow our Features and you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) as a courtesy. How do you follow someone? Well, if you have a preference, state it in your #FF post. A lot of blogs are transitioning to WordPress in which they do not have the luxury of GFC, so an RSS subscription is appreciated or if you choose an email subscription. If you don’t have GFC please state in your post how you would like to be followed.

Hey! I’m jfeldt. I love to read – duh! And this last December I set a goal to read a bunch of books off a Face Book challenge. I decided the best way to keep track was start a blog. BOY I’ve been hurled into the world of crazy.

I’m 50% through and hooked on blogging. Stop by and check out my journey. I’m slightly self-deprecating; totally laid back; and mostly un-organized. Also, I sort of make up the rules as I go along; but hey, I have fun, and who doesn’t like fun? Hope to see you around.

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kick ass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?

I like Kick Ass heroines of course! I’m all about the strong female character. I can’t relate to females that are all simpering and submissive. I don’t really associate with people like that in real life so I don’t want to read about them either. The crazier the better though, but unhinged characters bother me so they have to be relatively on par with reality. Just because you are strong, independent and prickly doesn’t mean that you are incapable of rationale thought and make mistake after mistake (ahem Eugenie). I like my ladies like Mercedes Thompson from Patricia Brigg’s series and evolved Mac from Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. Good examples in young adult literature are Moulton’s Reaper series — Katniss from The Hunger Games does push the envelope for unhinged in the last book Mockingjay but she is a great strong female young adult character that doesn’t revolve around a HUGE romance.

OJV FF Feature & Follow #82If you have followed me via GFC you will no longer be able to get my feed via GFC or Blogger. I ask that if you use a reader, like Google Reader – just follow my RSS directly. That would be super!

Rachel is/has been obsessed with all things paranormal since her childhood. Her first book obsessions was Grimm's Fairy Tales which were read to her over and over again as a child. Later upon maturing the tween years were filled with Christopher Pike and RL Stine - which then led to Stephen King. She's never looked back since.

  1. I really love kick ass heroines as well! I haven’t read the Mercedes Thompson series, but I definitely want to! Happy FF!!

  2. MaryAnn says:

Strong heroines all the way! I can’t stand weak, whiney heroines who think that it’s completely normal to be treated like crap, or has no back bone. :)

  3. Ah, I like Katniss. But I think I like Katsa and Fire more. :-P They’re all bad ass though!

  4. Great Great response!! I also like female characters who can stand up for themselves and can relate to the reader :)

  5. Mac is probably my favorite character of the UF books I’ve read…even in the beginning when she was insufferable and whiny. I guess I saw where she was going.

  6. Hey Rachel, I just ordered Moon Called from the book depository and now I’m even more pumped to read it. For me the female leads strength can make or break a book. Have you ever read Graceling by Kristin Cashore? I thought her lead Katsa was awesome! Have an wicked weekend =D

  7. Ning says:

I usually need romance, but I prefer the hot alpha male over the kick-ass heroine!!

  8. Mersadies says:

Hey I love strong female heroines but I’m a sucker for a hot paranormal man too!!! I’m new to follow me friday hop…Hi!!!

  9. Strong female characters are always good. Any character with substance works for me.

    Happy Friday!

  10. Melliane says:

I totally agree with you! It’s quite the same thing for me.

  11. Evolved Mac is definitely a kickass heroine. I specially like those characters that you can watch grow throughout a book series, from a scared little girl, to a strong woman.

    Happy Friday!

  12. Franjessca says:

I love the kick-ass heroine and the Alpha Male. I also love to read the annoying heroine and sensitive, it just depends on my mood. I loved Mac in the Fever Series. and of course Barrons. =)
    Here’s our: http://booklovinmamas.blogspot.com/2012/02/feature-follow-1.html

  13. Katniss was a very strong character, but yeah, she did go pretty crazy there at the end. But I’m not sure that anyone would have reacted any differently if they had gone through everything that she had.

I’m new to this hop. Thanks for hosting, it’s a great feature!

  14. LaurieS says:

Hmmm, I find it difficult to answer this question because I read so many different styles of book and read them for different reasons. Typically I read for the characters more than the plot not to say that it isn’t important but if I don’t care about any of the characters the book will usually be a great big fail or a DNF. Books that I remember the most are those that moved me emotionally and/or made me laugh as well as get all weepy. And I’m almost afraid to admit this but I’m not a huge fan of the super alpha male ;)

  15. Patricia says:

Strong heroines all the way. I get annoyed and fed up with weak willed principals. Though I like lover-boy to be smoking hot, I’m happy with the geeks too (mainly cause I’m a geek at heart).

Ps. I’m following via feed :)

  16. I like strong female characters, humor, romance, twists and vivid descriptions but the one thing that makes or breaks it for me is world building! All of the best books, to me, anyway make the world seem so real!

Not sure who came up with this question but I think it is one of the best ones yet!!
