Review: Communion: A True Story by Whitley Strieber

PJ’s QUICKIE REVIEW:

If you ask me today what monster lurks in my closet and scares the crap out of me, it will always be the same. Aliens. The reason for my fear: Whitley Strieber. I have never experienced such a strong reaction than when I read Streiber’s books. Streiber’s account of his true life experience involving alien abductions had me sleeping with the lights on for a month and literally coming to realize what it means to be terrified all the while engrossed and riveted by his words. Believe his account or not, but you have to read his story and judge for yourself.

Communion: A True Story by Whitley Strieber is the tale of one man’s struggle with what he terms “The Visitors”, the things they do to him and his family and how he deals with the sudden realization that he is an alien abductee. This is a story of discovery, fear and strength and you shouldn’t pass this one up. This is probably the only non-fiction book that I will ever recommend but I highly urge you to read it.
Recommended for people with open minds. Go in with your eyes open! I read this as a young adult for the first time, it’s scary and real but there is nothing lewd or over the heads of a mature teen.

  1. I think Aliens scare a lot of people because there’s been more scientific proof that they exist. Take Area 51 for example or the various documentary programs being shown not to mention, how many people do we all know that have claimed to see something ‘strange’ in the night sky? The famous line ‘They’re out there’ is something that most people might not admit to but one that I think they probably believe.
I have seen something incredibley ‘strange’ in the night sky and there was a party full of witnesses-yes, alcohol was involved :o ] but it turns out that there were multiple phone calls to the police and reports of the same bizarre glowing balls of light, all in a line, that could go extremely fast or hover for 45 seconds at a time – in over 4 states that night within a 2 hour time frame. Oh, and the first ones could get a head of the last (there were 9 in all) and the last ones would snap back in line like a rubberband from the front was pulling them. It was crazy cool!

The thing in my closet is zombies! I have a Love/Hate relationship with them! They’re sooo much fun to read about or watch on TV (quality only-tired of the cheesy productions) but if I’m alone at night in our house of all windows (think ‘fish-bowl) on 10 acres of heavily wooded land, I can freak myself out like no other! I can picture the ‘un-dead’, the fast ones not the slow ones – heading for my house through the woods surrounding me. It’s a freak show, alright!

Okay, longest post in the history of posting! Great subject and Great book rec, PJ!

    • I’ve never introspected enough to know for certain if I really believe if aliens are real, I’m fascinated and scared but — you know sometimes it takes a little green man to fall in your lap and say “hi” for you finally to so definitely that you believe. LOL I even think I saw something, but I was young so I can’t even trust my eyes. And during the BP Oil spill last year (I live right on the Mississippi River) I saw this plane that was beyond belief how it was flying and it was completely silent, but it had military markings — blew my mind. If by chance I would known what to look for, I would have thought it was a UFO. The military has some crazy stuff out there that we have no idea about!

Regarding zombies. Biggest fear about that is seeing your loved one turned into a zombie. If my daughter … I can’t even voice it. I think that is what makes zombies so utterly horrendous. Are you watching The Walking Dead on AMC?? If not – you must!

  2. I haven’t really read a scary book except for Anna Dressed in Blood.
In my closet….I guess I will go with my purses. LMAO It scares me to think that I will be crushed by my Kathy Van Zeelands, D&B, and Ed Hardy purses that I have bought and hidden from the hubby. So maybe my closet fear is actually my hubby after he sees how many purses I actually own!

  3. So based on the cover I was expecting some creepy sci-fi book, but I am wrong! What a (difficult emotionally) interesting read this sounds like it will be. Shows that any monster you have in your head is more terrifying than anything really in your closet.

  4. I loved this book. It’s scary as hell. It had me analyzing every dream I ever had. But for me, the scariest book is The Exorcist. Hnads down. Happy Halloween!
