Feature & Follow Friday #59

Welcome to Feature & Follow Friday (err Thursday) on Parajunkee.com

If you are new to the #FF fun, Feature & Follow Friday is a blog hop that expands your blog following by a joint effort between bloggers. Feature & Follow Friday is now hosted by TWO hosts, myself of course and Alison of Alison Can Read. Each host will have their own Feature Blog and this way it’ll allow us to show off more new blogs!

How does this work? First you leave your name here on this post, then you create a post on your own blog that links back to this post (easiest way is to just grab the code under the #FF picture and put it in your post) and then you visit as many blogs as you can and tell them “hi” in their comments (on the post that has the #FF image). You follow them, they follow you. Win. Win. Just make sure to follow back if someone follows you!

Now to make this #FF interesting we do a FEATURE blogger. If you are interested in becoming a Feature click on the drop down link above FEATURES > Feature & Follow Friday and get on the waiting list!  It is also required, that if you participate you must follow the hosts (Parajunkee & Alison Can Read) and the two Feature blogs.

Our Feature  - Belle Books

My name is Emma, I am 24 from Glasgow. Currently in my final year studying tourism with Spanish, and I also speak a little French and Italian. I’ve been an avid reader since I was young, and since reading the Twilight saga I’ve found a whole new love for young adult/paranormal romance/vampire books. Harry Potter will always be my favourite series, it literally was my childhood! I even have a Harry Potter tattoo <3

Q. If you could write yourself a part in a book, what book would it be and what role would you play in that book?

People might not assume this about me, but I’m rather political. But, the thing is I’m political in my house, because polite Southern Girls don’t discuss politics in public, unless they’ve had too much to drink. Or so they say. But, mainly I don’t want to offend anyone, because political views have become almost like religious or even like racial or sexual stances – the wrong lean might get you ostracized. So, I keep quiet, unless I know I’m in similar company.

I do have a point. Being a lover of dystopian fiction, I would write myself into a dystopian – and yes, you might think I’m crazy. No, I don’t want the world as we know it to end! But, really the characters in these books RAIL against the system. They take a stand – and what I would give to have the cojones to do that. Because I think something needs to be done. And I would like to know how I would react? Because everything said and done, would I be the type of person to point to the left and say “He Did It?” Or would I stand up for my beliefs and way of life and say “Hell no”? Even if it were to mean my life was at stake? So write me into The Hunger Games, I’ll be part of District 13 – or write me into 1984 and I’ll protest against Big Brother…hopefully. Never wanted to be a sheep.

Now for the Follow Fun!

  1. I don't read a lot of dystopian, but yeah, you gotta be mad, girl!

I wrote a very obvious answer but never less boring! LOL

    Have a great weekend!

  2. Jennifer says:

That's a good answer…I'm right with you on the whole politics thing. I find that some people I talk to, if they don't agree with my POV, or are just don't admit that there can be multiple POVs, are disparaging to me or anyone who doesn't agree with them.

BTW, love the background….it makes the avatar pop!

  3. TheJennaGirl says:

totally unrelated to today's post, but I love the new look! It's so fun to change it up every once in a while. :)

  4. I actually think that being a character in a dystopian novel would be crazy cool! Not just one of those everyday people following the rules, of course, but a hard-core rebel. You'd do great things as a person in District 13! I love The Hunger Games! :)

Here's my Follow Friday! And there's still time to check out my 100 Followers (now 250+) Giveaway if you want! :)

    Have an awesome weekend!

  5. Huh, it would be pretty interesting living in a dystopian world…I went for romance all the way, I want my own book with Barrons as my hero…what can I say, I'm a romance girl :) Have a great friday! http://www.booksavvybabe.com/posts/feature-and-follow-friday-819/

  7. Justin941 says:

First time participating in this. :) It's really great, I loved the question too. I had very similar thoughts as you in my response. Got a feeling a lot of people would pick dystopian. ^_^

I got stuck at the polite Southern Girls. LOL No, I totally get what you're saying. I can see you railing against the system.

I loved the answer to this question. lol I kind of had the urge to get up and yell "EFF THE MAN!!!!" lol anyways I followed.
Oh yea I'm new to this lol

  10. I love politics too but oh snap, I could never in the Hunger Games books. I was thinking more along the lines of Divergent. I could possibly do that one.

  11. Hmmm…I was totally selfish and knocked off female characters that I want their men. ;P

    Happy Follow Friday!

  12. Niina says:

    LOL! Great question!

  13. Aaron Pound says:

I like those choices, although it seems that those who fight the system in most dystopian books get crushed by that system. I love that you'd fight the good fight, even if the deck seems stacked against you.

Me, I'd want to live forever and explore the galaxy.

  14. sinn says:

Good answer! I actually had to agree with you this week.

Btw, like the new look to the site ^_~

    Hey Rachel

Linking up today. Wondered if you work with horror authors? And could you tell me how I might learn how to design my own book covers – any online software or course you know of? Be really grateful for any advise you could offer.

Let me know either way – esp about working with horror – shahwharton@gmail.com Thanks X

  18. Hi It's Jenn at Seduced by books – come over and play – we've been busy lately – I'd definitely go bad ass shifter

  19. Taylor says:

Dystopian is a good choice of a book o be written into, especially the Hunger Games!

Also, I really like the new background and header! :)

Hope you have a great weekend! :)

    Dystopia is a great choice…..

Old follower Check out my FF here http://le-grande-codex.blogspot.com/2011/08/follow-friday-4.html

  21. I haven't read the Hunger Games or any dystopian books for that matter. I need to pick up my slack.

New follower and first time participant of Follow Friday

  22. Remember when you wrote about that person who's new to the hop? Yeah, well, that's me, your very own follower! You can check out my "Follow Me Friday" post here (hint, hint, wink, wink…)

Dystopian would be a very excellent choice especially considering it's ability to make our own world seem like cherry pie. Is that another reason why you chose to be a character in that kind of setting?

  23. I love your completely honest answer. I am the same way about politics. I don't discuss them for fear of being put to death. LOL! Not really, but I am a Texas girl, so you never know.

  25. Today is my first Follow Friday!
I love your answer, but as much as I like dystopian fiction myself I still can't see myself in there; it isn't only dangerous (to fight the system) to your own person, but to the people around you as well, and I wouldn't want to put my friends and family in that position.

  26. Travis says:

HI!!! This is my first time doing Friday Follow Me. Hope I did everything right!?!?! Kind of NOT tech savvy, But I love reading! Thanks for doing all this!

  27. Cristina says:

Hi Rachel. I love your answer. I love Dystopian but did not choose it. I went for fun and comedy.
    Mine is at http://alaskanbookcafe.blogspot.com
    have an awesome weekend!

  28. Rebecca says:

    Hi Rachel,
I just wanted to say thanks for this weeks FF question. It let me put feelers out for a book idea that I've had for a long time. Nothing may ever come of it but thanks!

  29. Candace says:

That would be very scary to go to a dystopian world, but yet I know where your coming from!

I haven't done the Friday Follow in ages so I thought I'd join in this week. Love the question!

  30. Jenni Elyse says:

Fantastic answer and I love the new look of your blog!

  31. Sara Bee says:

I completely understand what you're saying. I would love to be placed in a role where I am able to stand-up and fight for something I believe in.

  32. Dead Trees and Silver Screens says:

    I love this topic!

I'm afraid I'm too chicken to be in many of the books that I have read.

    Here is mine:

  33. Kira says:

oh, I totally agree with this. Dystopian heroes are definitely the type of people to aspire to be.

    Here's PiF's.

  34. Maria Behar says:

Hey, what a GREAT new look for your blog!! Love it!

About this question — it's a very interesting one, lending itself to wild speculation! And I really agree with your answer. The rebel characters in dystopian novels don't take what's given to them and just submit. Instead, they start revolutions in order to change evil systems. So these are truly admirable characters. Kudos on your choice!
